Capitalizing on his long-standing interests in television, film and world cultures, Stuart has now worked in broadcast production for over 
10 years and has traveled extensively through Africa, Europe, and Latin America.  He has edited, directed and shot numerous commercial 
and industrial projects for clients including the New York City Department of Health, the A&E network, Nokia, and Centrum. He has 
also contributed to documentary projects for the non-profit organizations Interpeace and the St. Camille Foundation.  Most recently, 
he produced a short documentary film titled “The Politics of Smear” for local PBS affiliate WGBH in Boston.  In May of 2004 he graduated 
summa cum laude with a degree in International Studies and continued his education by receiving a Masters of the Arts in journalism at 
New York University in January of 2007.  "The Money Stone" is Stuart's first film.

Paula Ely:  Producer

Paula Ely has been involved in the entertainment industry since 1991, when she joined the television division of Carolco Pictures, then 
Hollywood’s largest independent production company. After Carolco’s closing, Paula joined Kazmark Entertainment Group, a firm which 
creates television advertising and programming trade opportunities in association with a major advertising agency. Paula oversaw the creation 
of Springbok Films in 2002, and has served in producing roles for several films under the Springbok banner. In 2005, Paula produced and 
directed the documentary “Vanishing Cultures:  Bushmen of the Kalahari,” an official selection at nine national and international film festivals.  
The film was named “Best Documentary” at the Gulf Coast Film & Video Festival, and Paula received the “Best Producer” award at the La Femme Film Festival in Los Angeles.  The documentary was also selected to partner with the human rights group WITNESS in a Movies That Matter project in association with jaman.com. In addition to her roles at Kazmark Entertainment, Paula recently served for a year as bookkeeper and distribution executive for the startup media company Agape Media International, and managed production administration for the PBS pledge drive special “The Answer is You,” featuring Michael Bernard Beckwith, airing in December 2009.  Paula produced and directed the nonprofit group PAWS/LA’s showcase and fundraising videos in 2006 and 2009, as well as the organization’s public service announcement featuring Kathryn Joosten.  She served on the awards committees for the 2009 IDA Documentary Awards and the Roy W. Dean 2009 Los Angeles Film Grant, and is a candidate in UCLA’s Certificate of Archaeology program in the Department of Humanities, Anthropology.  She anticipates completing the program in 2011.  


Sabrina Schmidt Gordon: Supervising Editor

Sabrina Schmidt Gordon has been committed to documentary filmmaking for over a decade.  Her editing debut garnered an Emmy for 
WGBH’s Greater Boston Arts series, and she has continued to distinguish herself as both a producer and editor, having worked 
on numerous award-winning documentaries for public television and cable. Most recently, she Co-Produced and edited the award-
winning documentary, Hip-Hop: Beyond Beats and Rhymes, which received nationwide broadcast on Independent Lens, and has 
become part of a national dialogue.  Other PBS projects include An American Love Story, A Place of Our Own, Soldiers Without Swords, Liberian Democracy: A Journey Back Home and Ralph Bunch: An American Odyssey, to name a few.


John DeNatale: Advisor

John DeNatale oversees all local programming for Thirteen/WNET. He is Executive Producer for New York Voices which is Thirteen's 
signature news and public affairs program. In its first full season 2002- 2003 New York Voices won three New York State Broadcasters 
Awards for outstanding program, outstanding series and outstanding commentary. Mr. DeNatale is also Executive Producer for the 
Emmy award-winning series The Walking Tours with David Hartman and Barry Lewis, which features the history and culture 
of New York and New Jersey neighborhoods such as Harlem, Brooklyn, Greenwich Village, Central Park, Newark and Hoboken.  Mr. DeNatale began his journalism career at the MacNeil-Lehrer NewsHour, the highly respected flagship PBS nightly news program from 1983- 1995.  He served as Senior Producer for National Affairs from 1989-1995. During that time Mr. DeNatale was the editor in charge of health and science, education, criminal justice, and the Supreme Court.  He contributed to political coverage during the Reagan, Bush and Clinton Administrations, and was a contributing editor during the National and Republican conventions in 1988 and 1992.


Jeff Zimbalist: Advisor

Jeff is an Emmy Award nominated director, cinematographer, and editor whose films have been broadcast on HBO, Cinemax, PBS, 
Channel 4 in the UK, the BBC, Current TV, BET, and WE television, as well as theatrically distributed throughout North America, 
Europe, South America, Australia and Asia. Jeff’s work has been featured at the Museum of the Moving Image in New York, the 
Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Museum of 
Contemporary Art in Massachusetts, the Museum of Fine Art in Boston and the Institute of Contemporary Art in London.  FAVELA 
RISING, which he directed, shot, edited and produced, was short listed for the Academy Award for Best Feature Length Documentary in 2005, and among the 36 international awards it has won are Film of the Year by the International Documentary Association, Best Film at the Sydney International Film Festival and Leeds International Film Festival, as well as Best Director at the Tribeca Film Festival. FAVELA RISING (www.favelarising.com) was theatrically exhibited in five continents, held over in theaters in the United Kingdom for six months, and theatrically released by ThinkFilm and HBO in 34 cities in North America.  FAVELA RISING was also nominated for a 2007 Emmy Award.

Thomas Lee: Photographer

Thomas has come on board to the project in hopes of broadening audience interest in the galamsey issue by packaging the film into a multi-media project that includes a full photo-spread.  Born 1982 in Taipei, raised in Hong Kong, educated in Chicago, and now based in New York, Thomas meanders between the East and the West, seeking inspiration for his work as a journalist-artist. He has completed projects in Afghanistan, Uganda, the United States, and China. His work has been published in The New York Times, International Herald Tribune, PDN, American Photo, and NEED, among other U.S. and international publications.

David Raiklen: Composer

David's composing is recognized by awards, including a 2004 American Music Center Grant. Dr. Raiklen has composed music and sound 
design for theater, dance, television, cell phone , museums, concerts, documentaries and features, including Boone Style, 30,000 Leagues 
Under the Sea, and Special Effects, directed by Ben Burtt. He's also scoring a groundbreaking video game. David Raiklen compositions have 
been performed at the Hollywood Bowl and the first Disney Hall. David is host of a successful radio program, Classical Fan Club, where guests 
include Joshua Bell and John Williams. Current projects include a thrilling revelation of the soviet space program, The Secret Life of Gagarin, 
featuring Elliott Gould. He is scoring the feature debut of teen director Anne-Sophie Dutoit, Faded Memories.
